School of Music Graduate Student Premieres First Opera

On Sunday, September 23, Ithaca College graduate student Patrick Valentino will conduct the world premiere of his first opera, Monuments Men. The opera, composed last year, centers on the true story of a small group of Allied soldiers sent to protect the artwork of Europe from the destruction of World War II.

The themes of the importance of art to civilization, and the individual's internal struggles with conflicting loyalties, are explored in this true tale of heroism.

The premiere features a cast and orchestra comprised entirely of IC students and conducted by Patrick Valentino.
