Ithaca College

Trampoline, Ithaca's competitive storytelling event, comes to Ithaca College as part of the First-Year Reading Initiative on September 27th at 7pm at the IC Square in Campus Center.

Modeled on national story slams like The Moth and First Person, Trampoline will invite audience members (for instance, you) to come up and tell a true (or mostly true, or convincingly false) story on a given theme. The only rule is: no notes.

To tie into the FYRI choice of Ten Thousand Saints, the theme for the event will be I'm With the Band. We're looking for stories about bands or music. Bands you love, bands you hate, break-up songs, maybe that time when you wanted to be a drummer, or the one time an accordion player tried to steal your girlfriend or boyfriend.

“Excellent books like Ten Thousand Saints inspire readers to think about their own stories. Music plays such a big role in the novel and we thought that a story telling competition about bands and music would make for a very entertaining community event.” says Shaianne Osterreich.

Ithaca College’s First-Year Reading Initiative introduces students to the community of learners that is Ithaca College. It provides an opportunity for them to meet faculty, staff, and other new students from many different departments. It allows them to consider an important issue outside of the constraints of the classroom and suggests the value of life-long and independent learning.
