Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women WorldwideContributed by Kaley Belval on 10/01/12 IC Feminists, in association with SAFER, More Than Me, and She's The First are hosting a screening of the documentary Half the Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. It will be shown on Friday, October 5th at 7 pm in Textor 101. The film focuses on the gender-based issues that affect women around the world, including rape, maternal mortality rates, and sex trafficking. Education is a key aspect of the solution to these problems, and the film depicts how education changes the lives of women and their families around the world. The documentary is based on the best-selling book Half the Sky, written by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. On November 1st, WuDunn will be speaking at Ithaca College about the book and the film for the Difficult Dialogue Symposium at 7:30 pm in Ford Hall. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Kaley Belval at kbelval1@ithaca.edu. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
