Thursdays at the Handwerker: "PUBLIC ART IN ITHACA: from MLK & Harriet Tubman to Dinosaurs & Hummingbirds"Contributed by Mara Baldwin on 10/02/12 The Handwerker Gallery is pleased to be hosting a presentation by Caleb Thomas from the Ithaca Public Art Commission. Please join us on Thursday, October 4, at 6:00 p.m. for his presentation on public art in Ithaca. Caleb Thomas's presentation will include discussion on the role of public art in communities, site-specific projects facilitated by the Public Arts Commission in Ithaca, and the ambitious 21 Boxes project, completed in September. An artist himself, Caleb Thomas's leadership within the Ithaca community heavily influences his own practice, dedicated to ending racism and other forms of oppression in Ithaca. All Handwerker events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; and weekends, noon to 5:00 p.m.. The gallery is closed to the public on Tuesdays unless otherwise specified for an event but can accommodate group or class visits by appointment. |
