Ithaca College and SUNY Cortland, participants for 53 years in the annual Cortaca Jug football game, became co-owners of the federally registered trademark "Cortaca" and are now partners in a trademark and licensing program for “the biggest little game in the nation.”

Any vendor creating merchandise (apparel, bags, writing utensils, mugs, etc.) bearing the protected term "Cortaca," whether for on-campus departments or organizations, or for third party vendors to sell in stores, must be set up as an official licensee and go through an approval before using the term on any merchandise.

Vendors that are already licensed for the Ithaca College licensing program (110 and growing) are being contacted to see if they also want to be licensed to produce Cortaca merchandise. Vendors SUNY Cortland has worked with in the past are also being contacted to apply for a license. There will be no royalties associated with this program for this first year, so this program will not affect costs or pricing.

Students and staff ordering merchandise for this game with the name "Cortaca" on them must use a licensed vendor.

Merchandise with the name "Cortaca" on it may not use either the Ithaca College or SUNY Cortland institutional logos. Please see the Cortaca website for the Licensing at a Glance poster for more information about logos, colors and fonts.

For more information, please visit the Cortaca Licensing website or contact Joe Gladziszewski in the Office of Sports Information at cortaca@ithaca.edu.
