Gene Baur, President and Co-Founder of Farm Sanctuary, to Speak in Business SchoolContributed by Paul Deamer on 11/02/12 Join us to hear Farm Sanctuary President and Co-Founder, Gene Baur, on Wednesday, November 7, at 7 p.m. in BUS 111. Mr. Baur is the author of the national best-selling book, Farm Sanctuary: Changing Hearts and Minds About Animals and Food, and has been hailed as “the conscience of the food movement,” by Time Magazine. Gene will be speaking on the topics of our food system, the treatment of farm animals, and ways we can all improve our world by making ethical choices about what we eat. These topics are of great interest these days as more and more people realize that our modern industrialized food system is unhealthy for people, animals, and the earth. Gene's approach is empirically-based, inclusive, and non-judgmental. Gene is the co-founder and president of Farm Sanctuary, America’s leading farm animal protection organization. For 25 years, he has traveled extensively, campaigning to raise awareness about the abuses of industrialized factory farming and our cheap food system. Gene views farm animals as emotional, intelligent individuals and has dedicated his career to advocating on their behalf. “The Sustainability Initiative talks about sustainability as a decision-making framework for continuous improvement, one that mindfully balances the economic, environmental and social impacts of our choices. Several times each day, we each make decisions about food. Gene's talk will offer us greater insight to better inform our choices in order to make more mindful, more sustainable decisions about the food products we choose to consume.” said Marian Brown, Special Assistant Campus and Community Sustainability. Gene’s book will be available for purchase and he’ll be on hand to sign copies. This presentation is co-sponsored by Ithaca College School of Business and Sustainability Initiative. SLI credit is available for this event. Please note in order to receive credit for any SLI session, you must register through orgsync at least one day before and also sign in at the event.
