I am saddened to inform you that Nicholas Vandam passed away this past week.

Nick has been a valued faculty member of the Mathematics department since 1977, teaching in a large number of roles, most recently as an Adjunct Professor.  He retired this past semester.

Nick was a dedicated and compassionate teacher.  He was especially gifted in his work with HEOP students, inspiring them and strengthening their mathematics backgrounds.  In addition to his passion for teaching, Nick had an inspiring life-long passion for the environment and community service.  He was active member of the Adirondack Mountain Club, Finger Lakes Cycling Club, Cayuga Nordic Ski Club and was very active in maintaining the Finger Lakes Hiking Trail.  He has been active in many community volunteer organizations, especially the Caroline Food Pantry.  His loss is felt by his many friends at the college and in the community.

Our sincere condolences go out to his wife Lucy and son Daniel and the rest of his family.  A memorial service is being planned for a future date.
