Migration from Oracle Calendar to Outlook Calendar - Coming the End of December!Contributed by Beth Rugg on 12/02/12 Oracle Calendar has been the institutional calendaring system for many years. The Oracle Calendar product is no longer being developed or supported and does not work on the latest Mac operating systems (Lion 10.7 or later). Microsoft Live@edu provides a calendar solution (Outlook Calendar) along with email. ITS will be migrating user data from Oracle Calendar to Outlook Calendar over the December shut-down (exact dates to be announced). For Oracle Calendar users, this change will be big! It will take time and effort to get used to the new environment and the new way of scheduling meetings and resources. Meeting organizers, resource managers, and designates in particular need to take this change very seriously. The Microsoft Live Exchange email and calendar environment is a highly- regarded collaboration system used by many educational institutions across the world, but there is a significant learning curve associated with using it. We are highly confident that this new system will more than meet the IC's community needs, but there will be some short-term "pain points" during the transition. After the migration users must use either Outlook Web App (OWA) or the Outlook client to manage both email and meetings. Oracle Calendar will no longer be available for scheduling. Outlook is very different from Oracle Calendar. Users will need to learn new processes for scheduling meetings and appointments, managing shared calendars, setting up access rights, and managing resources. We strongly recommend that you take advantage of training opportunities regarding this change. Training workshops will be offered beginning the week of December 10th and continue through the spring semester. ITS will be offering training on:
Additional workshops will be added to the schedule; and, additional training resources will be available online. If you are an Oracle Calendar user, you SHOULD NOT begin using Outlook Calendar until after the user data migration at the end of December. If you do, there is a risk of duplicate entries and meeting confusion. Additional information will be available over the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more information! ITS Helpdesk Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Sharon Beltaine at sbeltaine@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-1045.
