Eleanor Henderson’s Ten Thousand Saints honors seminar students will be making a multimedia presentation on Thursday, December 13, at 6 p.m., entitled, New York As Text.

Eleanor is teaching a one-credit course called Ten Thousand Saints, an Honor Scholarly Conversation about her novel of the same name.  On Sunday, December 2, she and 15 students went to New York City and spent the day visiting landmarks from her novel, which is largely set in Alphabet City and the East Village in 1988.  

They visited Tompkins Square Park, St. Marks Place, the former site of CBGB, and the ISKCON Hare Krishna Temple in Brooklyn.  They discussed the ways these parts of New York have changed (some very dramatically) in the last 25 years.  Her students will present an artifact from the trip in a show-and-tell style research presentation.  

Topics will range from the history of tattooing to the Christadora building and gentrification to independent media in the East Village.  All are welcome to attend the presentation, and there will be time for audience questions and participation.
