College Investigating Larceny of Health Center MedicationsContributed by Rory Rothman on 12/19/12 I wanted to let the campus community know that the Ithaca College Office of Public Safety, in conjunction with the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Department of Health, is investigating the larceny of prescription medications from the Hammond Health Center. There is no indication that the larceny poses any threat to the health or safety of members of the campus community. The investigation began after the Health Center administration determined that there had been a breach in protocols. At no time did that breach pose any medical risk or harm to any patient, nor was any patient’s personal, medical, or financial information compromised. In addition to and separate from the Public Safety criminal investigation, the college and the Health Center are also conducting internal audits, in order to review and further strengthen the Health Center’s compliance with legal requirements and with college policies and procedures. As a reminder to the campus community, Ithaca College has an Ethics and Integrity Policy and an anonymous hotline that can be used to confidentially report activities that may involve criminal, unethical, or otherwise inappropriate activity or behavior in violation of college policies.
