Submission deadlines for short-term, faculty-led courses to be taught abroad in 2013-14 are approaching.  Any faculty member interested in leading such a course abroad during the winter session of 2014, spring break 2014, or summer 2014 is encouraged to be in touch with the Office of International Programs to begin discussing ideas for such programs.

Proposal process
The first step in proposing to travel abroad with students is to complete our online intent form.  This gives the Office of International Programs (OIP) an idea of what you have in mind, and will allow us to begin the preliminary work of assisting you in designing a viable program.  

The next step is the full proposal form, That should be submitted along with a budget breakdown of the program, using the Excel spreadsheet template.  

Proposal submission deadlines
For programs being run in 2013-14 and thereafter, the intent form is due 15 months prior to program implementation, and the full proposal is due 12 months prior to program implementation.  

Winter 2014 programs (submission deadlines have already passed)
Intent form due: September 30, 2012
Proposal due: December 31, 2012

Spring Break 2014 programs
Intent form due: January 31, 2013
Proposal due: March 15, 2013 

Summer 2014 session programs
Intent form due: February 15, 2013
Proposal due: May 31, 2013

Workshops
There will be two workshops held this semester to assist faculty in developing and planning short-term study abroad programs.

The first workshop, to be held February 6, will familiarize faculty with the program planning and development process, proposal submission, safety & security measures, risk management, best practice, as well as other relevant topics. A panel of faculty members who have successfully lead programs abroad will share their experience and suggestions. 

The second workshop, to be held April 11, is being led by William P. Hoye, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of IES Abroad.  Mr. Hoye is a leading scholar, legal mind and experienced higher education administrator who regularly offers these workshops at college and universities nationwide  This interactive workshop will focus on legal and risk management issues relevant to those wishing to take students abroad for short-term international experiences.

• Thursday, April 11, 2:00-4:00 p.m., location TBD

Light refreshments will be provided at both workshops.  Please note that these will present different information, and thus those interested in leading student groups abroad are encouraged to attend both sessions.
