"Legislating Language in the Name of National Unity: An Oklahoma Story," is the title of an article by Assistant Professor Donathan Brown.  The article will appear in the next issue of the International Journal of Discrimination and the Law and continues Dr. Brown's contributions to research examining communication, race, language, and policy in the United States.

The article argues the existence of a rhetorical correlation between shifting demographics and increased demands for official language policies, most recently the English is the Official Language of Oklahoma Act.

An earlier article by Dr. Brown focuses on the debate over profiling in the state of Arizona. That article, according to Sage Publications, ranks among the top 10 "most read" manuscripts.

Dr. Brown joined the Ithaca College faculty as a predoctoral diversity fellow in the School of H&S and is now in his second year as an assistant professor of communication studies.
