Feb 18th for a FREE staged reading of IC alum Katharine Clark Gray's play TIMBER LAND at the Kitchen Theatre, with IC theatre faculty, students, and alumni. Civic Ensemble presents by Katharine Clark Gray A FREE Staged Reading Monday, February 17th at 7:00PM at the Kitchen Theatre 417 W. State Street / Martin Luther King, Jr. Street, Ithaca NY (across the street from the State Diner) Timber Land takes place in Bangor, Maine in the first weeks of 2009. As America prepares to inaugurate its first African-American president, the folks in Bangor, a self-described “progressive” community, welcome Hal, the fugitive grandson of the community’s elder statesmen. Hal, an activist whose act of protest has gone awry, settles into this homey enclave and brings fresh perspective to the ways and means of activism that both challenge and excite his newfound Northern family. But when Hal’s past catches up to him, questions arise as to the nature of his exodus. Was there more to his flight than simple civil justice? Timber Land was written by Philadelphia-based playwright Katharine Clark Gray, an alumna of Ithaca College’s Dept. of Theatre Arts, whose plays are gaining critical acclaim along the east coast. The staged reading will be directed by Cornell Theatre Professor Melanie Dreyer-Lude. The cast features local favorites Susannah Berryman, Sarah K. Chalmers and J.G. Hertzler, IC Theatre Arts alums Dustin Sullivan and Josh Sedelmeyer, Off-Broadway’s Omar Maskati, fresh from a run of the new play Disgraced, at Lincoln Center Theatre, and current IC Theatre Arts students Serrana Gay and Jasmine Harris. Directed by: Melanie Dreyer-Lude With: Susannah Berryman*, Sarah K. Chalmers*, Serrana Gay, Jasmine Harris, J.G.Hertzler*, Omar Maskati*, Josh Sedelmeyer, and Dustin Sullivan* (*appears courtesy of Actor's Equity Association) The reading will be followed by a panel discussion with the playwright, the director, and Civic Ensemble Artistic Director Godfrey L. Simmons, Jr. Click here to RSVP to this free event: https://www.facebook.com/events/528110083900112/
