Peter Sykes, one of the most distinguished and versatile keyboard artists performing today, will give a solo clavichord recital this Friday Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in Hockett Family Recital Hall.

He will be presenting the works of J. S. Bach, C. P. E. Bach, Haydn and Beethoven on the clavichord--a unique European stringed keyboard instrument hailing from the late Medieval era. His playing, not to be missed, has variously been called “compelling and moving,” “magnificent and revelatory,” and “bold, imaginative, and amazingly accurate.”

In addition to the clavichord performance, he will present a master class at Cornell University on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 10 a.m. in Barnes Hall, utilizing harpsichord, clavichord, and chamber organ.

Sykes is Associate Professor of Music and Chair of the Historical Performance Department at Boston University. Since 1985 he has also served as Director of Music at First Church in Cambridge, Congregational. A member of the board of the Cambridge Society for Early Music, he is founding board member and current president of the Boston Clavichord Society.
