Penn State choir Essence of Joy to perform on campus Tuesday night!Contributed by Jenny Stockdale on 03/03/13 Penn State University's world renowned choir, Essence of Joy, will perform at Ithaca College Tuesday, March 5, at 7:00 p.m. in Hockett Family Recital Hall. Founded in 1991, Essence of Joy has been presenting sacred and secular music of the African and African-American choral tradition for more than twenty years. The choir is a credit bearing class at Penn. State University and under the artistic direction of Dr. Anthony T. Leach. The group has performed extensively in the United States, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Composed of a diverse group of approximately 45 singers, the choir involves undergraduate and graduate students from many academic programs at Penn State. The choir's Artistic Director Dr. Anthony T. Leach is a Professor of Music and Music Education at the Pennsylvania State University. He holds a Ph.D. in music education and masters in conducting from Penn State. He also holds a bachelors in music education from Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pa. Check out the choir's Facebook page for more information on upcoming events.
