Assistant Professor Donathan Brown will present a recent essay titled,  "Examining Racial Politics amidst Shifting Demographics," at the 60th annual meeting of the Southeastern Council of Latin American Studies to be held this week in Panama City, Panama.

Dr. Brown will discuss the shifting legal and political tide pertaining to policies like immigration reform and official language policies by means of state level legislation, as well as the legal/constitutional tensions created as a result.

While proponents of such policies deny that shifting demographics are a catalyst, Dr. Brown argues otherwise by means of three case studies:  Oklahoma State Ballot 751 and 2012 court cases, Cabrera v. Escamilla and Arizona v. United States.
