Chilean poet Cecilia Vicuña brings her distinctive improvisatory style as the first of three Distinguished Visiting Writers to read on campus this semester. Vicuña is the author of twenty books of poetry and the co-editor ofThe Oxford Book of Latin American Poetry.

Cecilia Vicuña exhibits and performs widely in Europe, Latin America and the United States. Engaged with improvisatory oral performance, her work deals with interactions between language, the environment, and textiles. While exiled in London, she co-founded Artists for Democracy to oppose dictatorships in the developing world. Since 1980, she has split her time between New York and Chile. Her film/poem Kon Kon Pi was exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in 2010.
