School of Music professor named to National Flute Association's Board of DirectorsContributed by Jenny Stockdale on 04/29/13 Wendy Herbener Mehne, Professor of Performance Studies at the School of Music, was recently named to the National Flute Association's Board of Directors. She has previously served the National Flute Association as their Secretary and a member of their Excutive Board. The National Flute Association, founded in 1972, is the largest flute organization in the world. Approximately 6,000 members from more than 50 countries join together in person, online, at conventions, informally and in forums, through publications and classrooms, and in performance. Guided by its goals to encourage a higher standard of artistic excellence for the flute, its performers, and its literature, members include leading soloists, orchestral players, jazz and world music performers, teachers, adult amateurs, and students of all ages. Herbener Mehne was a 1995-1996 Dana Teaching Fellow and the 2004 London Sabbatical Scholar. She is a member of the Ithaca Wind Quintet, one of the School of Music’s resident faculty ensembles, and co-principal flutist with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra. |
