This year FLEFF has the honor of presenting two films from Korean filmmaker Yong Ki Jeong. The director will be in attendance at the Cinemapolis screenings and also present at two on campus workshops.

Yoo-seok searches high and low for a girlfriend who disappeared, leaving nothing but a text message behind. Ae-yeon is also left with just a fine-cut Cubic Zirconia ring from the boyfriend who left her. Na-ri wanders from one man to the next, in search of her true love. Bok-nam is a hyena protecting the city that has fallen in love with his friend’s girlfriend. And there’s Byung-chan, a rugged man who thought he would never find his soul mate.

About JEONG Yong-ki

Director JEONG Yong-ki has established himself as one of the greatest directors of comedy by directing the second and third installations of the <MARRYING THE MAFIA> franchise. These films have gotten him much recognition for making sequels that surpass their original works. His hilarious comedies about the boisterous mafia family captured audiences around the country. JEONG went on to helm films as <ONCE UPON A TIME> and <THE RIGHTEOUS THIEF>, combining dynamic action sequences with hearty comedic moments. He believes that “actors are the most important factor of a comedy film” and shows his knack for grasping the greatest characteristics of each actor. Such is the talent which gave him consecutive box office hits.
Now JEONG combines romance with comedy in COUPLES, portraying an unexpected and unique story about love. “When I’m working on a comedy film, I just can’t help feeling happy and laughing all the time.” says JEONG. He shows his characteristic talent for highlighting each actor’s strong comedic points in this film. He also utilizes other cinematic components like décor, stage setting, and props in this film in order to strengthen the concept behind his world of comedy, sure to keep the Korean comedy film tradition alive and strong.
