African Students Association's First Annual Africa WeekContributed by Steven Lartey on 03/31/13 The African Students Association will host our first annual Africa week. This week will include a series of events that will be dedicated to promoting awareness to the public about the social, cultural, and political aspects of Africa, both historical and modern. This week begins with a visit from filmmaker and author, M.K. Asante JR. who will open the week with a screening of his film and a discussion on Monday April 1st. On April 4th ASA is collaborating with the Caribbean Students Association and the African Latino Society for “Let the Beat Drop: From Afrobeats to Hip hop”, an exploration of the connections between Hip Hop, Reggae, and Afrobeats. The week will conclude with the first annual Mr. & Miss ASA pageant on Friday April 5th (this includes modern African fashion and comedy) and the Africa Week banquet on Saturday April 6th. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact African Students Association at icafricanstudentsassociation@gmail.com. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
