Two exciting new features have been added to the Ithaca College Web Profile Manager (WPM).

AddThis Sharing Tool

The first is a tool that makes it easy for site visitors to share your news and blog entries via social media. With the click of a button a user can automatically share a link to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, via email, or through any number of additional social media channels such as Reddit or Pinterest.

The new AddThis tool appears just above the body copy of a news article or blog posting. A user simply clicks the corresponding icon for the social media outlet they want to share the story through, and the tool will generate a post for that user to share with their network.

This feature has been turned on in WPM by default for all profiles, but Primary Content Managers (PCMs) and their delegates have the ability to turn this feature off entirely for their profile, or for individual News stories or Blog posts.

New Layout Option for Photo Galleries

The second feature is an improved photo gallery experience for users. Now when a visitor to your galleries clicks on a picture thumbnail, the image will open in a pop-out display while the rest of the screen fades slightly. Any photo captions will be overlayed at the bottom of the image. Users will be able to navigate through the gallery images individually with arrows, or start a slideshow to scroll through them automatically. Clicking anywhere off the image will close the pop-out display. This new presentation allows photos to be displayed at larger sizes on the screen and not be confined by the webpage template.

When creating a new photo gallery in WPM, the new “Modern Gallery Layout” will be selected by default. However, PCMs and their delegates also have the option of using the “Classic Layout” instead – simply click the radio button next to that option. Please note that existing photo galleries have been converted to the Modern Layout, though they can be switched back to the Classic Layout simply by accessing that gallery’s settings.

It is also important to note that the “Postcards” feature, which allows a user to email a specified image with a message included, is currently not compatible with the Modern Gallery Layout. If this functionality is important to you, please continue to use the Classic Layout for new and existing galleries.
