Joy Bauer, from NBC's TODAY, will serve as this year's Jessica Savitch Distinguished Journalism Lecturer. She will speak on Thursday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Emerson Suites. The event is free and open to the public.

Sponsored by the Roy H. Park School of Communications, the Jessica Savitch Distinguished Journalism Lecture Series brings a broadcast journalist to campus each year to honor the legacy of Jessica Savitch, the 1968 Ithaca College graduate who became an Emmy Award-winning NBC News anchor and correspondent. Previous speakers in the series have included Sam Champion, Jean Chatzky, Lester Holt, Ann Cury, David Muir ’95, Andrea Mitchell, and Natalie Morales.

Joy received her Bachelor degree in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland and a master of science in nutrition from New York University. At the beginning of her career, Joy completed a five-year post as Director of Nutrition and Fitness for the “Heart-Smart Kids Program”, a program that she developed for The Mount Sinai Medical Center’s Department of Pediatric Cardiology in New York City. Joy also served as nutrition consultant for the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, was the clinical nutritionist with the neurosurgical team at The Mount Sinai Medical Center – and taught Anatomy and Physiology and Sports Nutrition at New York University’s School of Continuing Education.

Passionate about delivering scientifically sound health information, Joy received the 2010 National Media Excellence Award from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the 2012 American Society of Nutrition Science Media Award.
