Recent School of Music Alumni Jarrett Bastow places in Tulsa Symphony OrchestraContributed by Jenny Stockdale on 04/16/13 Jarrett Bastow, ’11 School of Music graduate, recently won a section double bass position with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. He advanced last month in the audition process and was awarded the opportunity to play with the orchestra on a trial basis as the final part of the audition. Bastow rehearsed and performed in the orchestra's final concert last weekend and was offered the position through a unanimous decision by all eight members of his audition committee. He attributes his post-college success to the dedication and expertise of his instructors. “I would like to thank Dr. Nicholas Walker, Dr. Jeffery Meyer, and all my mentors from Ithaca College…for providing me a strong education and training into the orchestral world.” In addition to winning the position in Tulsa, he won an associate position with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago for the 2013-2014 season. Bastow is currently finishing up his Masters in Double Bass Performance at Northwestern University in June 2013 under the instruction of Andrew Raciti, Principal Double Bass of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. |
