Assistant Professor Nick Kowalczyk, who teaches feature writing and creative nonfiction in the writing department, published a new essay this week in the "Real Families" series on Salon.com. The essay is titled "How Many Pets Can We Save?" and it's about love, marriage, pets, and a small dog in danger named "Pancakes."

Thank you for your article. I'm an "animal person" (who had a Yorkie-Poo and a
Sidney Terrier) and I enjoyed reading it. I donate to the Animal Legal Defense
Fund. Perhaps Cornell's vet school can co-host a conference with the law school
about tougher sentencing for such crimes.
