Welcome to Professor Cynthia A. Kierner's talk on Monday April 22, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m at Textor 101, and hear how President Jefferson's daughter, Martha Jefferson Randolph, helped shape her father's public image in Washington and beyond.

Martha Jefferson Randolph was a wife, mother, and daughter (of Thomas Jefferson). She spoke five languages and had a famously "perfect temper." But did she make history? Come hear how Randolph helped shape her father's public image in Washington and beyond--and how she struggled as a debt-ridden plantation mistress in post-revolutionary Virginia. 

Professor Cynthia A. Kierner is a Professor of History at George Mason University. Currently an Organization of American Historians (OAH) Distinguished Lecturer and past president of the Southern Association for Women Historians (SAWH), she is the author or editor of seven books including Martha Jefferson Randolph, Daughter of Monticello: Her Life and Times (2012); The Contrast: Manners, Morals, and Authority in the Early American Republic (2007), and Scandal at Bizarre: Rumor and Reputation in Jefferson's America (2004).
