We are seeking facilitators for small group discussions on Colm Tóibín's book, Brooklyn, the '13-14 selection for the First Year Reading Initiative.

As you may have seen in President Rochon’s recent announcement, Brooklyn, by Colm Tóibín, acclaimed Irish author, is our 2013-2014 selection for the First Year Reading Initiative. We are now in the planning stages of what is shaping up to be another exciting full year of co-curricular activities.

The first set of activities includes small group student discussions, which will take place on the morning of August 27th during the annual Fall Welcome for first-year students. There will be a large scale presentation after which students will break off with discussion moderators. We are now looking for staff, faculty, administrators, and alumni volunteers who are interested in facilitating these discussions with our new students.

If you are interested in volunteering to be a discussion facilitator during Fall Welcome, please sign up here.   For more information about Colm Tóibín,'s lovely book, please click here.

As we have done for the past several years we will have optional summer afternoon conversations about the book in late July - early August

Please stay tuned for more announcements about the 2013 - 2014 FYRI calendar.  If you are interested in proposing a book related activity or discussion for the calendar or if you have any questions about the FYRI please contact Shaianne Osterreich, Associate Director of the Integrated Core Curriculum.
