Guest-Editor Sreenath Nair. Studies in South Asian Film and Media. Vol.5.1 August/September 2013.

This article, based on extensive fieldwork in Mumbai, India, applies the Indian aesthetic concept of rasa (essence, taste, flavor) to the practice and performance of North Indian classical percussion. Bringing together the fields of ethnomusicology, anthropology and philosophy, Nuttall's work provides a unique interdisciplinary perspective on the question of how rhythm becomes embodied in performance.

Denise Nuttall (Anthropology) has an article entitled, "Rhythm Embodied: Training Rasa in Hindustani Tabla?", selected for upcoming publication. | 0 Comments |
