Thoughts on fracking infrastructure, extreme energy and civil disobedience by Sandra Steingraber, the Ithaca College distinguished scholar-in-residence who was recently released from jail. 

The Park Association for journalists of Color, the Park Center for Independent Media, the Department of Legal Studies and Green Umbrella New York will host Sandra Steingraber, Ithaca College distinguished scholar-in-residence, who was released from jail April 25.   

Steingraber, PhD, is a biologist, author and renowned environmental activist.  

On April 17, she was sentenced to 15 days in jail after pleading guilty to trespassing on property owned by Inergy LLC and refusing to pay a fine. The nation's largest energy transportation and storage company, Inergy seeks to bury fracked gases in abandoned salt caverns located beneath and beside Seneca Lake.   

In this talk, Steingraber, who was released from the Chemung County Jail on April 25, will discuss her actions, her reasons, her experience with incarceration, and what's next in the fight against extreme energy.
