"The Scientist in Cell Block D": Sandra Steingraber to Speak with Katarina Andersson '13 Monday, May 6, 7:30 p.m., Textor 101Contributed by Maura Stephens on 05/03/13 Thoughts on fracking infrastructure, extreme energy, and civil disobedience by Sandra Steingraber, Ithaca College distinguished scholar-in-residence, biologist, and author, with special guest Katarina Andersson '13, the music education and vocal performance major who was arrested in March with Steingraber and 10 others for undertaking this peaceful protest. Steingraber served 8 days of a 15-day sentence for refusing to pay a court-ordered fine for "trespassing" on the site of the Inergy, Inc. compressor station that is marring the beauty and threatening the clear waters of Seneca Lake, just north of Watkins Glen on the southwest side of the lake, which provide drinking water for 100,000 people. In this talk, Andersson will discuss her reasons for taking this action of civil disobedience and thoughts on what she learned, and Steingraber, who was released from the Chemung County Jail on April 25, will discuss her reasons, her experience with incarceration, and what she sees as next steps in the fight against extreme energy. Hosted by the Park Association for Journalists of Color, the Park Center for Independent Media, the Department of Legal Studies, and Green Umbrella New York. Free and open to all. Monday, May 6, 7:30 p.m. Textor 101
