The School of Business is proud to have their very first faculty member, Professor Hormoz Movassaghi, win a Faculty Excellence Award.

The Faculty Excellence Awards, sponsored by the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE), is the highest award given to IC faculty members.  CFE bases their criteria on overall excellence in teaching, scholarship and service appropriate to their appointment.  Nominees must demonstrate excellence in all three areas.

“I am deeply grateful for this honor! Over the course of years, I have had the opportunity to meet and work with many amazing faculty on this campus. So being selected for this distinguished award, in the midst of a community of talents, certainly feels gratifying and special!” said Professor Movassaghi. He continued to state that, “My journey in continuous improvement has involved dedication, drive, endurance, sacrifice, and many sleepless nights! As crucial as these have been to the accomplishments that I take pride in, NONE would have been possible without the caring mentorship, sage advice, constant encouragement, and incredible support that I have been privileged to receive over the years.”

Faculty Excellence Awards is entirely a peer process.  A peer must nominate the faculty member and faculty members provide the supporting letters (view nomination criteria here).  After nominees are selected, the Faculty Development Committee meets and discusses each applicant's file and arrives at a decision on up to five recipients.

“We’re delighted to see Hormoz Movassaghi’s consistently outstanding performance in teaching, scholarship and service, well known by his colleagues here in the Business School, recognized at the College level. We value these activities within the School and are delighted that one of our faculty members has been honored!” said Dean Mary Ellen Zuckerman.

Hormoz is Professor of Finance and International Business and has been with the School of Business since 1998. He joined Ithaca College from University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he completed his Masters and Ph.D. in Business Administration with focus on International Business; his dissertation is titled: "Investment Patterns of U.S. Companies Abroad and the Incentive Programs of Foreign Governments: Evidence from the Benchmark Surveys".

In recent years, he has taught eight undergraduate courses in Finance or International Business, from the first year to senior level; he has also been teaching the required MBA course - “Managing in a Global Economy” in the School of Business. Hormoz has also taught as an Adjunct Faculty member at Binghamton University, Tompkins Cortland Community College and SUNY Empire State College. His recent areas of research interest, conference presentation, and journal publications have focused on socially responsible investing, financial performance of the leading global corporations in business sustainability, ethics in financial services industry, and factors influencing students’ choice and their perceived impact of study abroad programs.
