IC Physics students test software they helped develop for the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA)

Casey Byrne (IC Physics '13), Rob Lewis (IC Physics '13), and Martin Garay MacLean (IC Physics '14) made the journey in May and June, 2013, to the NASA Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility in Palmdale, CA, to test software they helped develop for the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). The students participated in test flights and lab tests at the facility with physics associate professor, Luke Keller. The data analysis software worked well and the observatory has now begun new astronomical research programs. IC students, Katherine Kennovin ('14), Jeffrey Porzio ('14), and Martin Garay MacLean ('14) will spend the summer working with professor Keller on data analysis for these new research programs on NASA's newest astronomical observatory.
