We are still looking for a few more First Year Reading Facilitators to join us on August 27th as part of the Fall Welcome schedule for incoming students.  We are also just about to start up our three week series of Coffee, Cookies, and Brooklyn - informal book club, open to the campus, about this lovely book by Colm Tôibîn.

The first set of activities for the First Year Reading Initiative includes small group student discussions, which will take place on the morning of August 27th during the annual Fall Welcome for first-year students. There will be a large scale presentation after which students will break off with discussion moderators. We are looking for staff, faculty, administrators, and alumni volunteers who are interested in facilitating these discussions with our new students.

If you are interested in volunteering to be a discussion facilitator during Fall Welcome, please sign up here.   For more information about Colm Tóibín,'s lovely book, please click here.

Also, we will have 'Coffee, Cookies, and Brooklyn' starting this Thursday July 25th at 1:30 in the Taughannock Falls room in the Campus Center. These are open to facilitators and the rest of the campus.  We will host these informal book chats again on Wednesday July 31st and Tuesday August 6th, at the same location and time.

Please stay tuned for more announcements about the 2013 - 2014 FYRI calendar.  If you are interested in proposing a book related activity or discussion for the calendar or if you have any questions about the FYRI please contact Shaianne Osterreich, Associate Director of the Integrated Core Curriculum.
