Janice Levy, professor in the Department of Media Arts, Sciences, and Studies, was among three recipients of the 39th annual Light Work Grants in Photography. Levy submitted work from her series “Welcome to Saudi Arabia,” photographs taken during her 2010-2011 sabbatical in Riyadh, KSA. Light Work was founded as an artist-run, non-profit organization in 1973. The Light Work Grants in Photography program is a part of Light Work’s “ongoing effort to provide support and encouragement to artists working in photography” and is one of the longest-running photography fellowship programs in the country. An exhibition of work by grant recipients will be held at Light Work Gallery August 19-25, (reception September 25, 5-7 p.m.). In addition, a selection of photographs will be published in Contact Sheet: The Light Work Annual. For more information, click here. Janice Levy Awarded Light Work Grant Comment from

Hurray once again for Janice--who continues to show us all that great art and social justice can live in the same frame.
