Mathew Q. Brooks, anthropology major, attended the United Nations celebration of the International Day of Indigenous Peoples on August 9, 2013. Brooke Hansen, Anthropology Associate Professor, and Jack Rossen, Anthropology Professor, accompanied him to the prestigious invitation only event. They were attending through their participation with the Two Row Wampum Renewal Campaign, which culminated in New York City on Aug. 9 with hundreds of paddlers in canoes and kayaks ending a 12 day journey down the Hudson River to raise awareness about honoring Native treaties and cleaning the environment. Matthew paddled the entire 12 days and was able to spend time and learn from Native American elders from many tribal backgrounds.
