Open Contra Music Jam, this Friday 4-6 near the Fish Bowl in IC Square. ALSO: CONTRA DANCE ON CAMPUS FRIDAY, MAY 2.Contributed by Rachel Wagner on 04/24/14
Fans of traditional music, bring a book or a friend and come hang out in the IC pub to listen. We'll be hosting a contra dance on campus on the evening of Friday, May 2. Stay tuned for details!!!
New participants, feel free to email for a PDF of the tunes book: rwagner@ithaca.edu, or if you play by ear, just come on over! Even if you are just learning an instrument, come join us near the Fish Bowl in the IC Square in the Campus Center, Fridays 4-6 this spring. This event is for all Ithaca College community members who play an instrument, whether you are studying music formally or you just have a dusty guitar in the back of the closet begging for attention. The tunes are very easy to play! Guitar players can just strum chords if they wish! PDF of most tunes available from rwagner@ithaca.edu. Or, if you prefer, you can usually find the sheet music for individual tunes on thesession.org. All Ithaca-College affiliated musicians (and fans of music) welcome. The music will be played at a tempo comfortable for most musicians from novice to expert.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For those who don't know, the Fish Bowl is the room in IC Square with windows for walls, near the coffee shop in the Campus Center. I would LOVE for there to be contra dancing. And YES - once we develop a
quorum of musicians, I think we can get a caller to come onto campus, at least some of the time, to teach and to call, perhaps even for a special evening fully devoted to contra dance and more often if there is sufficient interest. So encourage your musician friends to come on out! Once we have the music in place, we will move on to try to add some dancing too! |
