MegsRadio.fm - IC students launch personalized Internet radio player to promote Ithaca-area musiciansContributed by Doug Turnbull on 09/03/13 MegsRadio is a new ad-free, non-profit, personalized Internet radio system that is currently being developed at Ithaca College. A prototype can be found at: http://megsradio.fm Our primary goal is to promote the work of local Ithaca-area artists by contextualizing their music with songs by more well-known artists. Our second goal is provide users with an amazing music listening experience. This is done by giving our users more control over their stream of music through novel interactive design features. We also utilize the data that we collect from our users as feedback for our intelligent playlist algorithms.
MegsRadio is the brainchild of Prof. Doug Turnbull in the Department of Computer Science. It has been designed and developed by a number of talented IC students including Kris Stensland '14, Alex Spirgel '14, Andrew Horwitz '13, Alex Wolf '14, Steve Meyerhofer '15, and Richard Roberts '12. This project is a collaboration between Prof. Adam Peruta and Chris Wheatley in the Park School of Communications as well as Brian Dozoretz, Cass Barbour, and Prof. Alex Perialas in the Whalen School of Music. The work is funded both through internal grants at IC as well as by the National Science Foundation. Please give MegsRadio a try and let us know what you think.
