This Sunday September 22, 2013, Microsoft will upgrade our Office 365 email and calendar service. No service outage is anticipated during this upgrade.
Here’s what you should expect during the service upgrade:
- When your account is upgraded you will be notified that the "Microsoft Exchange administrator has made a change that requires you to quit and restart Outlook". Please quit and restart Outlook, otherwise you will continue to be notified. You may see this message during or after your account migration.
- If you happen to be checking your email with the Outlook Web App when your email account is updated, you may need to sign out and sign back in.
- iOS users may receive a popup saying that the server "outlook.office365.com" could not be verified with the option to continue. Click continue and your account should work as expected.
- If you have delegated access to your Outlook account to someone else (or had access delegated to you), you may experience a brief period where access to the delegated account isn't available.
After the service upgrade:
Outlook Web App Users:
- You can continue to access email and calendar through myHome but you may notice that the url has changed to outlook.office365.com. If you have created a bookmark, you may want to update it to the new Web address.
- Outlook Web App (OWA) users will notice immediate interface changes. See this Microsoft article for more details.
- There is a lite version of Outlook Web App that will load on older browsers and some mobile devices.
- If you use Outlook Web App, there may be an option to work offline depending what browser you are using.
- Some users have reported issues with Chrome especially on Macs. If you experience problems, try a different browser.
- There have been reported issues with Internet Explorer 8 (IE8). IE8 Outlook Web App users should consider using a different browser if you experience problems with slowness.
- We have seen a few issues with the "send" and "reply" buttons not appearing when composing mail using OWA. The problem has been seen on Macs and Windows and with all browsers. Try to resize the window or close the session and log back in.
Email Client Users (Windows and Macs):
- Outlook email client users and IMAP email client users (Apple Mail and Thunderbird) should not experience any changes other than what is listed above.
Mobile Device and Tablet Users:
- Mobile and tablet users may notice interface changes. The experience will vary based on device.
Additional email and calendar resources are available online. Outlook classes are being taught in the Technology Learning Center, Friends 101, see this calendar to sign up. When classes are not being taught, one-on-one help is available by the Technology Learning Specialists. Remember, Outlook is the supported email client for Windows and Macintosh computers; Thunderbird and Apple Mail have limited support from ITS. Quick guides are available to help users move from Thunderbird and Apple Mail to Outlook.
