School of Music's Nicholas Walker to perform free community concert at Trumansburg Conservatory of Fine Arts SaturdayContributed by Jenny Stockdale on 09/11/13 This Saturday, Sept. 14, School of Music bass faculty member Nicholas Walker will give a free community performance at the Trumansburg Conservatory of Fine Arts (TCFA). Accompanied by pianist Siu Yan Luk, Walker's program will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the conservatory's Clinton B. Ford Auditorium. A Trumansburg resident, Walker hopes to spread awareness of the conservatory's final stages of fundraising to help pay for the historic building's much needed repairs. Founded in 1982, the organization -- a 501(c)3 non-profit and a major asset to the community -- was the recipient of an anonymous $25,000 donation, contingent on the conservatory matching the donated amount by September. Just over half of the fundraising has been achieved so far, and several efforts are underway to meet the goal by the end of the month. Donate to the Trumansburg Conservatory of Fine Art's cause ~ Nicholas Walker is a musical omnivore, a musician who brings a broad range of training and experience to the double bass - classical and jazz, modern and baroque, solo recitals, chamber ensembles, and orchestral work. His enthusiasm and aptitude transcend arbitrary musical boundaries. Siu Yan Luk currently holds adjunct faculty positions at Rochester Institute of Technology and Opus Ithaca. Before moving to Ithaca, she taught at various institutions such as Hochstein School of Music and Dance in Rochester, NY and Monroe Community College.
