Ithaca College has had a very successful programmatic partnership with Longview, a retirement community offering independent and assisted living for older adults, for the past 14 years.  Longview is located about a half a mile up Danby Road from the College’s main entrance. There are a number of opportunities for students to become involved at Longview.

  • Course Related & Volunteer Activities at Longview

Students are welcome to submit proposals for course-related or volunteer projects or activities at Longview.  Recreational and social activities planned by students or student groups, student presentations and performances held at Longview are all possibilities. Chris Pogorzala, the IC/Longview Coordinator will work with students to identify options and to facilitate scheduling, promotion of programs, and recruitment of Longview participants.

Any student or student group interested in proposing an activity at Longview should first complete the online IC/LV Activity Request Form located at the following link in as much detail as possible:  https://www.ithaca.edu/gerontology/longview/activityform/.

Following submission of this form, each proposal will receive careful review by Chris Pogorzala and Bree Nash, Longview’s Ithaca College Liaison.  Please keep in mind that not all proposals for projects or activities can be accommodated, and that requests should be made well in advance of the due date for course-related projects.

Proposals involving photography or filming will require additional documentation and review that can take up to two weeks. Only one film/photography project will be conducted at Longview each semester.

If there are questions about the partnership and/or this process, please contact Chris Pogorzala, IC/LV Coordinator, at 274-1051 or pogorzal@ithaca.edu.

  • The Longview/Ithaca College Shuttle

On days that classes are in session there is a shuttle that provides transportation between Longview and the College from 8:40 a.m. to 1:00 on MWF and 9:00 to 12:25 p.m. on Tu/Th with regular stops at the Center for Health Sciences and Textor.  This shuttle is available to members of both the Longview and Ithaca College Communities.  The shuttle schedule is posted on the Gerontology Institute web site (https://www.ithaca.edu/aging/longview/).
