Patricia Zimmerman, professor of screen studies in the Roy H. Park School of Communications and codirector of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, presented a paper at Visible Evidence XX, the international gathering of scholars of documentary, in Stockholm, Sweden, on August 16, 2013.

Her paper was entitled “EngageMedia: The Gado Gado Tactics of New Social Media in Indonesia.” The paper analyzed the Southeast Asian human rights and environmental portal Engage Media as an example of permeable participatory media practice, networked circulation, infrastructure capacity building, and mosaic polyphonic structures within the context of post Reformasi Indonesia.

She also conducted and facilitated a participatory workshop entitled “Conflict Zones: Human Rights, New Media, Social Media, Ethics and Empathy.”
