Mark your calendar: The 2013 Distinguished Speaker in the HumanitiesContributed by Kimberly Anderson on 11/05/13 Stephen Greenblatt, Cogan University Professor of the Humanities at Harvard University and renowned author and Pulitzer Prize winner, will deliver a lecture entitled "The Humanities and the Toleration of Intolerable Ideas." Why and how did the utterly unacceptable ideas reintroduced by a humanist's recovery of an ancient poem manage to survive and be transmitted during pre-Enlightenment centuries that had no concept of toleration? What role do scholars and artists play in making possible freedom of thought? Join us in Emerson Suites at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, November 13, 2013! Admission is free, and all are welcome. A question and answer period as well as a book signing will follow. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Kelly Stern at stern@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-1375.
