The Office of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports will be undertaking a project to update our visual identity for all of the college’s intercollegiate athletics teams.

The “swoosh” symbol and interlocking IC letters have been used somewhat inconsistently to represent athletics and our student-athletes for a number of years, and it is time to take a fresh look at those marks.

It is important to note from the outset that this project will not involve changing the Bombers nickname or the team colors, nor will it seek to create a mascot. It is simply and significantly an effort to ensure that we are presenting a strong, clear, and consistent voice and visual identity to the public across all teams and sports.

The project will develop a program for Ithaca College athletics consisting of logo designs to be used with uniforms and other apparel, signs, facilities, athletics publications and other print material, and electronic communications, along with a redesigned athletics website. As the next phase in the college-wide branding program launched in 2011, and in alignment with the college’s mission and vision and the IC 20/20 initiative, it will help define the character of Ithaca athletics as forward-thinking and forward-looking.

This process will take place over the coming year and include focus groups comprising student-athletes, coaches, athletic administrators, campus groups, and alumni.

As someone who herself once wore the Bombers uniform with pride as a student-athlete, I value our rich traditions and storied history, which includes 15 team and 30 individual national championships. I hope you will join me in welcoming this opportunity to honor our past while keeping our eyes focused on the future.
