“National Save for Retirement Week” marks a good time for you to assess your savings situation and your goals for retirement.

Becoming a more informed investor will directly affect your chance of reaching your retirement goals. The National Save for Retirement Week website includes several useful tools, calculators and even a quiz to help you think about and assist you in improving your financial well-being. While you’re there be sure to access the Retirement Goal Evaluator. It’s an online calculator that’s easy and fast, and it will give you a good idea of where you stand in reaching your retirement goals.

You’ll also find valuable insights on the website:

  • If you’re just starting out, learn how you can invest and defer taxes on your savings.
  • Mid-career? See if your money is working hard enough for you.
  • If you’re nearing retirement, learn what decisions you’ll soon need to make.

In addition to using the online tools, we encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to meet with a TIAA-CREF consultant for an individual evaluation. A detailed evaluation tells you everything you need to know and do. A representative will be on campus on November 6, as well as December 5 and 19. To schedule an appointment, please call 866-843-5640, or visit www.tiaa-cref.org/schedulenow. All meetings are held in the Office of Human Resources located on the Garden Level of the Peggy Ryan Williams Center.

It's time to get focused! To change your retirement plan contribution, you'll need to complete a Salary Reduction Agreement and return it to the Employee Benefits & Work/Life Department. If you're not already contributing, go to www.tiaa-cref.org/ithaca to enroll.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Deb Merriman at dmerriman@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-8000. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
