Chemistry Alum Gary Kubera '82, President & CEO of Canexus, will give a seminar presentation titled:  "The Role and Impact of Chemistry in Our Society", on Tuesday, October 21st, at 4:00 p.m. in CNS 333.

How do you think about “chemistry”?  As a student, the answer is likely: molecules, labs, experiments, late nights, P-Chem (hate it), etc.  It’s unlikely that most people think about the role of chemistry in our society but it’s everywhere.  In fact, the business of chemistry supports nearly 25% of the US Gross Domestic Product and touches over 90% of all manufactured goods.  If your future is tied directly or indirectly to chemistry then you may be interested to understand how trends in technology, society and economics affect the future of chemistry in the U.S. or the world.

From a chemical industry point of view, the U.S. is in the early stages of a Renaissance that will last for decades; great news for upcoming graduates.  But not all chemistry related paths will benefit: what areas will face pressure and why?

Finally, we’ll explore how your educational background prepares you for success.  Of course, we each define success differently so what are the common themes that will support your success no matter how you define it?  I’ll give you my views after 30 years of experiences, observations, successes, and failures.
