The Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies is looking for students interested in participating in one of two Leave No Trace Trainer Course Trip to the Finger Lakes National Forest on November 1-3 and November 8-10.

In addition to earning a Leave No Trace Trainer certification, participants will enjoy a hands-on backpacking field experience as they cook and eat tasty back country meals, hike eight miles, and sleep under the stars.

The trip, designed by RLS 43000 (Adventure Education) students in conjunction with the Office of Recreational Sports and the Honors Program, requires no experience and gives participants a chance to get a taste of backpacking, learn about Leave No Trace, and meet some new people.

As part of covering this curriculum during the trip, participants will prepare and deliver a 15-minute lesson on an assigned minimal impact topic and upon successful completion of the course, participants will earn their Leave No Trace Trainer certification. 

The cost of the trip is $75 and includes equipment rental, food, and transportation.

Participants are encouraged to attend a pre-trip meeting Oct. 30 at 5:30pm in Hill Center G10. This will be an opportunity to meet trip leaders, coordinate departure times, ask questions, and finalize any missing paperwork. The meeting will last no more than one hour.
