The Division of Institutional Advancement is profoundly saddened to share the news of the recent death of former staff member Anita Costa '06, who passed away on October 31 following a brief illness. Anita started at IC as an administrative assistant in 1996, and later spent 11 years as a development assistant for the Ithaca Fund (now the IC Annual Fund). In 2011, Anita departed Ithaca for the warmer climes of Florida and a new position at St. Leo University's Donald R. Tapia School of Business. She will be remembered by her colleagues for her professional manner, "can do" spirit, hearty laugh, and sunny disposition. Services will be held this Wednesday, November 6, in Brooksville, Florida. Such shocking, tragic news. Anita was a a wonderful, warm, caring, helpful, efficient, hard-working, lovely colleague. She was so excited to move to Florida and seemed to have the world at her doorstep. She has left the world too soon. Deepest condolences to her family and many friends. I mourn with you. Rest in peace, dear Anita.

This was such a shock to all who knew Anita; not just because she was far too young (which she was), but because she was far too alive. Her life force, her strength, her love of life, humor, compassion for those she cared about...all seemed somehow immortal. It's inconceivable that she's no longer traveling this path with us. The world has truly lost one of its brightest sparkling lights. Rest peacefully, Anita, and wherever you are, shine on, bright one...shine on.
