Filmmaker and author Awam Amkpa to speak about New Imaginaries in Transborder Transactions Friday, November 15, 4pm in Clark LoungeContributed by Beth Harris on 11/12/13 The Classrooms Beyond Borders Initiative at Ithaca College invites you to a public lecture “Mutating Literacies, Cultural Productions and New Imaginaries in Transborder Transactions,” by director, actor, filmmaker and author Awam Amkpa on Friday, November 15, from 4-6pm in Clark Lounge.
Professor Amkpa is associate professor of Drama, Social and Cultural Analysis at Tisch School of Arts and director of the Africana Center at New York University. He is the author of Theatre and Postcolonial Desires (2003) and forthcoming Archetypes, Stereotypes and Polytypes: Theatres of the Black Atlantic. He has also directed film documentaries, including Winds Against Our Souls, It’s All About Downtown, National Images and Transnational Desires, and feature film Wazobia! There will be ample time for discussion, and a reception with refreshments will follow. This event is free and open to the public. Please come and bring friends with you.
