Lecture by Tsugumi Maki Joiner ('94) in the Handwerker Gallery Monday 11/18 at 4:00PMContributed by Paul Wilson on 11/15/13 Tsugumi Maki Joiner, Ithaca College alum and head of gallery planning at the MFA Boston, will give a lecture titled "The Expanding Museum: Master Plan Expansion and the Renovation Projects of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston." In this lecture celebrating the new art history concentration in museum studies, Maki Joiner will talk about the practical and conceptual dimensions of recent expansion projects at this world famous museum. These include the opening of a new American wing in 2010. The wing significantly reshapes the story of "American" art from one previously focused on art by Euro-Americans in the United States to one that emphasizes art made by a diverse array of artists from across the Americas. See this New York Times review of the new wing: www.nytimes.com/2010/11/19/arts/design/19americas.html Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Paul Wilson at pwilson@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3281. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
