Xanthe Matychak, an Ithaca-based sustainability consultant, will be teaching Designing Games for Sustainability (ENVS 20203) on Mondays from 1 to 5 pm. She will work with you to design and manufacture board games and card games that address sustainability problems. Throughout this design process you’ll experiment with effective methods for creativity, field research, prototyping, leadership, and game mechanics.

Xanthe is uniquely qualified to teach this course, as she has an MFA in Industrial Design (product design) from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a concentration in Sustainability. She has taught design-thinking and sustainability since 2005 and has lectured on these topics around the country. Currently Xanthe is a board member of Ithaca Generator, a community workshop with desktop manufacturing capabilities, as well as the Sustainability Cognoscente Network, the organization that hosts the International Symposium on Sustainable Systems and Technology. She is also a mentor at Cornell’s eLab (Entrepreneurship Lab), where she advises students on creative processes and new product development. Come join the fun – sophomores and above are welcome; world-changers preferred!
