The Latin American Studies Program at Ithaca College will host a talk by our Pre-Doctoral Diversity Fellow in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. 

The talk titled "Camera Obscura: Subverting the Filmic Canon of the Cuban Revolutionary Archive" will take place this Wednesday Nov. 20th at 12:00pm in Six Mile Creek Room at Ithaca College.

Enrique González-Conty is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at The University of Texas at Austin. His research project examines the role of literature and film in the construction of the Cuban Revolutionary Archive delving into how state-sponsored cultural agencies have managed to portray the official story of the revolutionary struggle by privileging the printed word and the photographic image. It also analyzes counter archives that have contested this official version of the archive with films and books published in exile and, nowadays, with independent productions that have emerged with the advances of technology.
